Unit-level implementation

The 2026–30 Strategic Plan provides a shared framework for planning across the University. Schools, colleges, campuses, UW Medicine and administrative units are beginning to engage their communities to identify how the plan’s vision, pillars, objectives, goals and actions can be advanced through local priorities and initiatives. This work helps connect institutional priorities with the unique missions, strengths and opportunities of individual units, helping bring the strategic plan to life across the UW.

The goal is alignment, not uniformity. Schools, colleges, campuses, UW Medicine and administrative units are not expected to adopt identical goals and actions or replicate the strategic plan at a local level. Instead, units are encouraged to identify where their strengths, priorities and initiatives can make the greatest contribution to the University’s broader goals.

Many units will find that their existing plans already align closely with elements of the University’s vision and pillars. In these cases, refinement may be more appropriate than significant revision. As units engage faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders in these conversations, they can identify opportunities to build on existing strengths and contribute to the University’s strategic direction. This work marks the beginning of an ongoing implementation process, helping local and institutional priorities reinforce one another while preserving the distinct identities of individual units.
