Strategic Plan 2026–2030
Built for the moment — advancing the future

Research administration

Research is central to the ÌìÃÀÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½â€™s public mission and global impact. Behind that research is a complex administrative infrastructure that helps faculty and research teams develop proposals, secure funding, meet sponsor requirements, manage awards and conduct research responsibly.

The Research Administration workstream will examine how we can make that support more effective, sustainable and easier to navigate.

What we are working toward

This work builds on the recommendations and principles emerging from the UW’s Research Resilience and Transformation initiative and other efforts to strengthen the research enterprise.

The workstream will explore opportunities to:

  • Simplify administrative processes across the research lifecycle
  • Reduce unnecessary duplication and administrative burden
  • Improve coordination between central and local research support
  • Provide more consistent and timely service
  • Strengthen support for investigators and research teams
  • Use technology and data more effectively
  • Create sustainable workloads and stronger career pathways for research administrators
  • Strengthen the UW’s ability to adapt to a changing research environment

Shaping the future together

Research administration connects faculty, researchers and staff across schools, colleges, campuses and central offices. Their experiences and expertise will be critical to designing approaches that work across the UW while recognizing the different needs of our research community.
