$2.3M energy conservation project in Physics/Astronomy Building complete

UW’s Conservation magazine snares top writing honors

The UW-based Conservation magazine has won a gold award in a national competition sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, or CASE. Conservation shares this top honor with a magazine from Stanford Medicine. The award recognizes magazines produced by universities or colleges for special external constituencies, including publications affiliated with individual colleges or devoted exclusively to an institution’s scholarly research. Prolific and profound: UW professor named U.S. Poet Laureate

Juan Felipe Herrera, visiting professor of ethnic studies at the 天美影视传媒, was named the 21st United States Poet Laureate on Wednesday. Herrera, who for the past two years has been the California Poet Laureate, is the first Latino honored since the U.S. Consultant in Poetry program began in 1937 (the title changed to Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry in 1986). Three UW students chosen as 2015 Goldwater Scholars

Three 天美影视传媒 undergraduates are among 260 students nationwide named as 2015 Goldwater Scholars. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation scholarships are awarded to students who have “outstanding potential” and plan to pursue research careers in mathematics, natural sciences or engineering. Colleen Fukui-Sketchley to receive UW鈥檚 2015 Odegaard Award

Colleen Fukui-Sketchley, diversity affairs director for Nordstrom, has been named the 2015 recipient of the 天美影视传媒 Charles E. Odegaard Award. Established in 1973, the Odegaard award honors individuals whose leadership in the community exemplifies the former UW president鈥檚 work on behalf of diversity. $31M gift will fund early stage UW research by high-tech entrepreneurs

The 天美影视传媒 is receiving a $31.2 million gift from Washington Research Foundation to boost entrepreneurship and support research that tackles some of society’s most crucial challenges. The award will fund four interdisciplinary initiatives that seek to advance global innovation in clean energy, protein design, big data science and neuroengineering.
