天美影视传媒 president Michael K. Young met with members of the Breakfast Group on Jan. 12, a local organization of African-American business and professional men who gather monthly.
The Seattle organization was founded in 1976 and focuses primarily on helping youth achieve their educational goals. It is a tradition for the UW president to meet annually with the group to present an update on the 鈥渟tate of the University鈥 regarding Black enrollment, staffing, and other issues related to opportunities for ethnic minorities on the UW campus.
President Young met with many of these influential community leaders for the first time in January. Notable UW alumni with the Breakfast Group include Larry Gossett, 鈥71, King County Councilmember and president of the UW Minority Community Advisory Committee; Herman McKinny, 鈥69, former vice president for urban affairs with the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce; Nate Miles, 鈥82, UW Foundation Board Director and vice president for strategic initiatives for Eli Lilly and Company; and Charles Mitchell,鈥65, chancellor emeritus of Seattle Community College District.
