Fourteen scientists, physicians and engineers from the 天美影视传媒 have been elected this year to the Washington State Academy of Sciences. According to a聽 released July 13 by the organization, the new members were selected for 鈥渢heir outstanding record of scientific achievement and willingness to work on behalf of the academy in bringing the best available science to bear on issues within the state of Washington.鈥�
In all, UW professors make up nearly half of the 29 new members, who will be formally inducted in September during an annual meeting at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.
Elected by current members of the Washington State Academy of Sciences:
- , dean of the College of Engineering, professor of aeronautics and astronautics
- , professor of pediatrics
- , professor of chemistry
- , professor emeritus of social work
- , professor of bioengineering
- , professor of pediatrics and of psychiatry and behavioral sciences
- , professor of aquatic and fishery sciences
- professor of biobehavioral nursing and health informatics
Additionally, five UW researchers were elected to the state academy by virtue of their election into the United States National Academies:
- , professor emeritus of immunology
- , professor emeritus of biology
- , affiliate professor of biomedical and health informatics
- , professor emeritus of biology
- ,聽affiliate professor of pharmacy
And, one UW faculty member was re-elected by state academy membership to be the board treasurer:
- , professor of family and child nursing
Incorporated by legislation in 2007, the Washington State Academy of Sciences initially had just 105 members. With this new crop of members from UW and other institutions around the state, the academy鈥檚 total membership will rise to 286. The academy鈥檚 mission is 鈥渢o provide expert scientific and engineering analysis to inform public policymaking in Washington, and to increase the role and visibility of science in the state.鈥�
