As March marches in, UW welcomes an assortment of musical productions to campus.  Enjoy a free performance by UW music students; experience the diverse musical talents of African artist Dobet Gnahoré; and see the School of Drama, School of Music, and Dance Program team up to tell the classic story of PIPPIN.

Brechemin Piano Series

UW music students perform works for piano at this free concert. 

Dobet Gnahoré

8 p.m., March 2 | Meany Theater

Widely considered one of contemporary African music’s most exciting talents, Dobet Gnahoré has astounded audiences with her thrilling stage presence, appealing melodies and powerful singing. Recently nominated for “Best Traditional Female Artist of Africa” by the KORA All Africa Music Awards, Gnahoré sings in seven languages, backed by a Pan-African band.  

Chamber Singers & University Chorale

7:30 p.m., March 3 | Meany Theater

The Chamber Singers and University Chorale present “Warp and Weft: Music of the Fabric of Life,” featuring music depicting the intricacy of nature, love, life, and the interdependence of our world.   

Intersections: Music, Pictures, & Words with Catherine Roche

4 p.m., March 5 | Brechemin Auditorium

Piano Professor Robin McCabe produces this quarterly series highlighting music inspired by great works of literature, performed by top UW music students and special guests. For the March 5 program, Catherine Roch of the School of Art delivers a pre-concert lecture and UW music students perform works by Debussy, Takemitsu, and others.  

Studio Jazz Ensemble & UW Modern Band

7:30 p.m., March 6 | Meany Theater

The Studio Jazz Ensemble performs big band arrangements and repertory selections. The Modern Band performs innovative arrangements of jazz standards, selections from the outer limits of the genre, and new original compositions. 

Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band with Mary Lynch, Oboe – Paragons

7:30 p.m., March 7 | Meany Theater

The Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band present “Paragons,” performing Jennifer Higdon’s Oboe Conecrto with UW artist-in-residence Mary Lynch, and other works.

March 8-19 | Floyd and Delores Jones Playhouse

A prince learns the true meaning of glory, love and war in this iconic musical allegory. Directed by Wilson Mendieta with music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.
