Drumheller Fountain, one of the 天美影视传媒鈥檚 campus icons, reopened Monday, one week ahead of schedule after having been closed by聽Facilities Services crews April 27 for its biannual cleaning and maintenance.
鈥淒rumheller Fountain is the centerpiece of our campus,鈥 maintenance supervisor Dale Baxmann聽said. 鈥淲e need to be good stewards of our campus landmarks; responsible planning and maintenance work is really important to our aging icons.鈥
Maintenance activities included patching and repairing the fountain鈥檚 liner, to prevent water leaks. Facilities鈥 masonry crews completed grout and stonework repairs along the fountain鈥檚 rim, and other crews and contractors evaluated corrosion on the pipes and fountain鈥檚 inner ring.
鈥淲hen people throw things into the fountain, it sometimes damages the liner,鈥 Baxmann said. 鈥淓specially big items like campus garbage bins or parking signs.鈥
During the closure, crews from Facilities Maintenance & Construction looked for ways to improve Drumheller maintenance for the future.
鈥淲e try to be conscientious and aware of constraints and limitations, but we still have to take care of the fountain,鈥 Baxmann said. 鈥淭here is some corrosion on the metal pipes and the fountain ring that we need to keep an eye on; it鈥檚 an aging structure and we have to care for it. We鈥檒l be coming up with a plan for more extensive repairs to the lighting, pipes and fountain ring in the next few years.鈥
鈥淭he water in the fountain gets pretty dirty after two years of trash, evaporation, and the friendly ducks and geese that flock to the fountain鈥檚 tame waters,鈥 grounds manager Howard Nakase said. 鈥淭he water isn鈥檛 so much, well, water anymore. It鈥檚 important we clean it out for the health of our campus.鈥
