The Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs at the 天美影视传媒 has a new name following approval by the university鈥檚 Board of Regents during a meeting Thursday. Effective July 1, the university鈥檚 largest graduate degree program will be known as the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Policy and Governance.

鈥淭he Regents鈥 action is welcomed and an exciting development in our program鈥檚 history,鈥 said Sandra O. Archibald, dean and professor. 鈥淭he new name recognizes our intellectual and practical contributions to public policy design, implementation and evaluation as well as leadership in understanding complex management challenges that emerge at all levels of local, national and global governance.鈥

Established in 1962 as the Graduate School of Public Affairs, the program was one of the nation鈥檚 first schools of public affairs at a public university. The school was renamed in 2000 to honor Daniel J. Evans, who served as a U.S. senator and three-term governor of the state of Washington.

The school鈥檚 current total enrollment of 502 students includes 405 in the MPA program, 78 in the Executive Master of Public Administration program and 19 Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management students.

The Evans School is ranked ninth among the nation鈥檚 schools of public affairs, fourth among the programs at public institutions. The name change does not impact the program鈥檚 accreditation or any of the school鈥檚 four degrees: Master of Public Administration (MPA), Executive MPA (Executive MPA), Master of Science in Public Policy and Management (MS), and Doctorate of Philosophy in Public Policy and Management (Ph.D.).
