Collegial Course Review Pilot

In Spring 2025, the UW faculty voted to update the 听to include听. Assessment of teaching effectiveness for all faculty must now consider all five core elements and must include collegial evaluation.To support departmental implementation of the听, the Faculty Council on Teaching and Learning (FCTL) developed and is currently piloting resources for collegial review of teaching.听

The Faculty Council on Teaching and Learning has used an iterative process to develop recommendations for performing collegial teaching reviews. The goal of collegial course review is to provide formative feedback on teaching and document reflective teaching practices.

The FCTL invites you to review and/or use the resources below and provide your feedback to the committee using .

The goal of collegial course review is to provide formative feedback on teaching and document reflective teaching practices. These core elements of effective teaching are, by design, intentionally broad and applicable across disciplines and teaching contexts on all UW campuses.
If departments/units have an existing collegial review process that already conforms to best practices, they are encouraged to adapt their process to include review of the 5 core elements.
