The 天美影视传媒鈥檚 College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) received a No. 1 national ranking for scoring 100 percent on a pair of federal performance measures, the Department of Education, Office of Migrant Education announced at its annual directors meeting in Arlington, Va., July 17-18.
Federally funded by the and administered through the (OMA&D), supports students from migrant and seasonal farm working families. It helps them persist through their first year of college and graduate with a baccalaureate degree.聽 Services include tutoring, mentoring, career development and financial support.
Of the 40 CAMP programs throughout the country, UW was the only school to receive a perfect score on the two measures set by the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) that assessed both the number of students that completed their first academic year and the number that went on to continue in higher education. Scores were based on data from July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012. That year, UW鈥檚 entire cohort of 61 CAMP students completed their first year of college and continued to a second year.
鈥淭his is very exciting news given that the program was first funded in 2010,鈥� OMA&D Associate Vice President Gabriel Gallardo said. 鈥淚t is also quite gratifying to demonstrate that migrant students who primarily come from rural communities in our state can be successful at a large, urban and research-intensive institution.鈥�
Other schools that placed in the Top-10 for both the GPRA rankings included Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Sacramento, Eastern Washington, Cal State Monterey Bay, Oregon State, Cal State Fresno and the University of Idaho.
UW CAMP also ranked among the top-10 schools in the 鈥淓ffective and Efficient鈥� measure based on cost-effectiveness in working with CAMP students to complete their first academic year.
