They are among 36 scientists and educators from across the state announced Aug. 1 as new members. New research from the Infant Brain Imaging Study (IBIS) Network, which includes the 天美影视传媒, finds that the amygdala, an area of the brain critical for interpreting emotions, grows too rapidly in infants who go on to develop autism.

A multicenter research team that includes the 天美影视传媒 Autism Center has received a five-year, $9.5 million grant to further evaluate whether brain imaging can help detect very high risk of autism spectrum disorder in early infancy.

By using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to study the brains of infants who have older siblings with autism, scientists were able to correctly identify 80 percent of the babies who would be subsequently diagnosed with autism at 2 years of age.
