Dear Student,
Welcome to the start of the academic year. We are writing to share important information on the 天美影视传媒鈥檚 ongoing work to foster welcoming, safe, and respectful environments for all Huskies.
The recent news of the Cornell sexual assault case has reignited and amplified national discussion and distress about the profound and lasting impact of sexual violence. As Huskies, we have an obligation to work tirelessly to prevent violence in our communities as well as to respond with care, respect and accountability when it occurs.
If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, harassment, or discrimination, support is available. You are not alone. Whether you are seeking support for yourself or helping a friend, the resources below can help.
Staff who can support you:聽
- Civil Rights Case Managers listen to your concerns with care, explain support and resolution options, and help you navigate the situation. To connect with a Case Manager, make a Civil Rights & Title IX Report. Anonymous reporting is available.
- Confidential Advocates provide confidential support for survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking. Advocates share resource options, assist with safety planning, and support your healing. You can talk with an advocate without making a report to the University or requesting a resolution process.
- is available 24/7 and connects you with a licensed mental health counselor if you need someone to talk with right now.
Support and resolution options available to you:聽聽
- Supportive Measures are designed to help students continue engaging in school or work after experiencing discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct. These may include modifications to course deadlines, changes to class or work schedules, adjustments in housing arrangements, and other referrals.
- Mutual No Communication Directives can be put in place to limit or prevent communication between two students.
- Alternative Resolution is a structured process facilitated through the Civil Rights Compliance Office in which students involved in a sexual misconduct complaint develop a mutually agreed-upon resolution.
- University Investigations are conducted by the Civil Rights Investigators. During an investigation, the available evidence is reviewed to determine whether a UW policy has been violated.
- Police Report: If the conduct may also be a crime, you have the option to report it to law enforcement. Filing a police report is your choice. You may report to the University, to law enforcement, to both, or to neither. Reporting to the Civil Rights Compliance Office does not automatically notify law enforcement. Support is available no matter what you decide.
For more information about sexual assault resources and response guidance, visit How to Help a Friend or review the Know Your Rights & Resources Guide available on the Brochures, guides, and videos page of the Civil Rights Compliance Office website. As a reminder, medical care after experiencing sexual assault or relationship violence may be helpful for treating or preventing illness and injury. You can seek medical care whether or not you decide to report what happened.
Over the past week, we have reached out to student leaders, faculty leaders, and University offices and units to share information and discuss how to strengthen UW programs, services, and policies related to sexual violence. If you are comfortable engaging, we encourage you to join the conversation by contacting your student government leaders, civilrights@uw.edu, or your Vice President/Chancellor for Student Affairs/Life.
We are here to help and support you and wish each of you a wonderful year.
